Kia shares its platforms and engines with Hyundai, which means it shares the strengths – good value, long warranties, well-equipped cabins and the same Theta II engine history. We service the Telluride, Sportage, Sorento, Forte, K5, Optima, Soul, Seltos, Carnival, Rio, Niro and Stinger at our shop on North Central.
Our approach on Kia is the same as on Hyundai: check coverage first, diagnose properly, and be honest about whether a repair is worth doing on a given vehicle. Many Kia owners are still inside factory or extended coverage without realizing it, and we would rather tell you that than take the work.
Models we service: Telluride, Sportage, Sorento, Forte, K5, Optima, Soul, Seltos, Carnival, Rio, Niro and Stinger.
GDI engines and Phoenix summers make oil monitoring genuinely important on this brand. Oil consumption on direct-injected Kia engines is common enough that monthly dipstick checks should be a habit, not a precaution. Low oil is the condition that precedes almost every serious engine failure we see on these vehicles.
Interval | What we perform |
30,000 miles | Full synthetic oil and filter, tire rotation, brake inspection, cabin and engine air filters, cooling system pressure test, oil consumption check |
60,000 miles | Transmission or DCT fluid service, spark plugs, brake fluid flush, coolant condition check, four-wheel alignment, GDI carbon assessment |
90,000 miles | Full coolant flush, water pump and thermostat inspection, rear differential fluid on AWD, fuel system and injector service, full suspension inspection |
Deep knocking that rises and falls with engine speed on 2.0L and 2.4L Theta II engines in Optima, Sorento and Sportage models. It is a lubrication-driven bearing failure, and Phoenix heat shortens the oil life that protects against it. If your engine is knocking, stop driving it. We verify whether the VIN falls under Kia’s extended engine coverage before quoting any repair.
Oil level dropping between changes with nothing on the driveway. Direct-injection Kia engines consume oil more than owners expect, and heat increases the rate. Check the dipstick monthly. This single habit prevents a meaningful share of the engine failures we see on this brand.
Rough idle, hesitation, misfire codes and worsening fuel economy past 60,000 miles or so. With direct injection nothing washes the intake valves, so deposits accumulate. Walnut blasting restores driveability and is scheduled maintenance on a GDI engine rather than a repair.
Juddering at low speed or hesitation from a stop on DCT-equipped Forte, Seltos and Soul models. Dry dual-clutch transmissions generate heat in traffic, and Phoenix traffic provides plenty. Fluid condition, clutch wear and software all matter, and the diagnosis determines which of them you are actually dealing with.
Telluride and Carnival owners often run tires down on the inside edges without noticing, because these vehicles ride well enough to hide it. Tread depth measurement on all four and a four-wheel alignment at tire replacement is how you get full value from a set on a heavy three-row vehicle.

It depends on the model, year and VIN. Kia extended coverage on many affected engines. We check before quoting engine work, because if you qualify you should be using that coverage instead of paying out of pocket.

Direct-injection engines in this family are known for oil consumption, and Arizona heat increases it. Check the level monthly. If consumption is severe, we test to determine whether rings, seals or the PCV system are responsible.
Call with your model and year and we will confirm scope before you come in. We service conventional Kia models fully, and we would rather tell you up front if something falls outside what we handle.
